Growing Non-GMO Summer Pastels Achillea Flower Seeds
Summer Pastels Achillea can be started indoors or in a greenhouse 4-8 weeks before the final spring frost. Use well-draining potting soil. Yarrow is incredibly easy to grow, but struggles with wet feet. Thin the seedlings to the sturdiest and apply a high-nitrogen fertilizer according to the directions on the brand you chose. There is no need to fertilize ever again. Also, try starting seeds directly in the garden bed once temperatures outside have warmed up and there is no risk of frost. Optionally, to ensure lots of blooms, mix in well-rotted compost and other amendments to increase soil fertility and drainage before planting outside. If transplanting seedlings from indoors to out, harden them off gradually to avoid shock.
Yarrow is tolerant of drought, humidity, heat, and many pests. After germination, all you need to do is wait for the flowers the following year. Deadheading spent flowers will extend the length of the blooming season. Cut back the entire plant a few inches after the first flush of flowering to encourage a second wave of blooms. Light shade can be tolerated, but full sun provides the most amount of blooms and vibrancy of color.

Tips From Our Gardeners
"If you’re worried about these being invasive, try planting them in large pots or containers and deadheading them regularly. This should keep them in check, even in areas where they are at risk of being invasive."
