Growing the Easy to Grow Container Garden Seed Assortment
When growing in containers, it is incredibly important to keep your plants well-watered. Keep in mind containers will dry faster than in-ground gardens. The larger the container, the longer it can go between watering. We recommend growing with our Max Water Retention Soil Mix for improved growing results compared to traditional soil mixes. Small containers may need to be watered multiple times a day depending on the needs of the plants, the local temperatures, and the amount of sunlight your location receives.
Cucumber - As a heat-loving vegetable, these seeds are best sown after the last frost for your growing location. Plant 1 inch deep. Provide vertical growing support as this vine grows.
Pea - Plant 1 inch deep during the cool spring or late summer. Peas prefer cool growing conditions and can typically tolerate a light frost. Provide a vertical support or trellis such as a fence, post, or homemade string trellis.
Radish - Plant 0.25-0.5 inches deep and 2-3 inches apart. Radishes are best grown in the cool spring and late summer to fall seasons. Harvest once the roots begin to show above the soil line. You may want to gently check how wide the root has grown before harvesting by pushing the soil back with your hands. Radish roots are typically 1-3 inches in diameter.
Lettuce - A cool-season crop that quickly starts to flower and become bitter when grown in the hot summer weather. Surface-sow or lightly dust with soil. Germinates best with some light. Do not bury more than 0.25 inches deep. Lettuce may be harvested as a microgreen, baby leaf, or when mature. Lettuce also grows well indoors with full sun or a grow light.
Basil - Press seeds into the soil or bury up to 0.25 inches deep. Multiple seeds may be sown, thin to one plant per container, or space 15 inches apart. Basil prefers warm growing conditions and should be planted after your last frost date, but also performs well indoors with the aid of a grow light. It may also be grown as a microgreen. Harvest a few leaves at a time. Harvesting a few leaves at a time over the growing season will encourage greater growth.
Parsley - Direct sow after your last frost date. Plant 2-3 seeds 0.25 inches deep and 1 inch apart. Thin to 1 plant per small container or every 10-12 inches. Harvest as needed.
Nasturtium - Sow 0.25 inches deep and 12 inches apart in full sun to partial shade. Harvest a few leaves for your garden salads or enjoy the views as these flowers bloom all season long.
Zinnia - Plant 0.25 inches deep and 10-12 inches apart with full sun. May be directly sown after your last frost date or started indoors ahead of time.
