Growing Green Cherry Tomato in the Vegetable Garden
Start Green Cherry seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last frost date, sowing 0.25 inch deep. Transplant outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 55 F, spacing plants 24 to 36 inches apart in rows 36 to 48 inches apart to give these vigorous indeterminate vines plenty of room to sprawl and climb.
Stake or cage plants early on, since indeterminate cherry tomatoes keep growing and producing all season and can become heavy with fruit. Water deeply and consistently, and prune suckers occasionally to help improve air circulation and direct more energy into fruit production.
Harvesting Green Cherry Tomato
Because the fruit stays green even when fully ripe, look for a slight softening and a shift from bright to a slightly deeper, matte green as the best signal of readiness rather than relying on color change. Harvest by hand, twisting gently or clipping the stem just above the fruit. Since this variety resists cracking, ripe fruit can often stay on the vine a bit longer than typical cherry tomatoes without splitting.
