Growing Non-GMO Utopia Bacopa Flower Seeds
Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost for earlier blooms. Germinate them in a warm, bright area. Gradually harden off the seedlings before transplanting them outdoors. After sowing and transplanting, the Bacopas should be watered heavily to help the roots integrate with the soil. Bacopa seeds don’t usually do well with direct sowing unless conditions are perfect. Bacopa flowers tolerate some poor soils, but are not drought-tolerant. Plants will benefit from shade in excessively hot summers and do not need deadheading late in the season.
These gorgeous Bacopas are quick to mature and will bloom throughout the summer and right up until the first frost. Deadheading them in early to mid-season will keep the plants looking neat and bright. Keep the area weed-free for beautifully vibrant blooms all season. Adding mulch around the base of the plants can subdue weeds and reduce watering needs. Regular fertilization will keep these plants looking great. Either apply rich compost at the beginning of each season or apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 3rd irrigation.
Utopia Bacopa in the Flower Garden
Bacopas are every gardener’s friend. They go well with a multitude of garden styles, require little maintenance once established, and are even resistant to deer and rabbit grazing! Utilize these beauties in borders, containers, hanging baskets, or as a filler in vegetable gardens, and flower beds. Try interplanting with salvia and petunias for a gorgeous display all season.
Companion Planting With Utopia Bacopas
Bacopas are resistant to deer, rabbits, many pests, and most diseases, which makes them perfect for companion planting and bordering your vegetable garden. Good companion plants for Bacopa include angelonia, lamb’s ears, ornamental sweet potato vine, and coleus.
About Utopia Bacopa Garden Seeds
Bacopas are considered non-toxic, but are also ornamental plants and not recommended for heavy consumption. Check with your veterinarian or healthcare provider with other questions. Some claim that bacopa has untapped health benefits, although this is largely unverified and should be viewed with caution.
Utopia Bacopas have 1/2 inches wide blooms that will keep coming up all season.
Sutera cordata, or more commonly known as Bacopa, is a flower native to various cool and coastal regions of western and southern Africa. Although native to Africa, bacopa requires temperate coastal climates.
Bacopa can also be known as Chaenostoma cordatum, Suerta diffusus, Bacopa cordata, water hyssop, Brahmi, and herb of grace. It is not actually a member of the Bacopa genus.
Bacopa is known to symbolize knowledge, learning, memory, and concentration. It makes a great gift to show your support for a new student, someone about to take a big test, or someone pursuing knowledge in their own way!
In some climates of South Africa (and similar zones), this plant can live as a perennial evergreen. There must be very warm winters!
