Growing Non-GMO Basket of Gold Alyssum Flower Seeds
Basket of Gold Alyssum flowers have wildflower-like hardiness and are most commonly broadcasted directly after the frost. For earliest blooms, begin seeds 6 -8 weeks indoors prior to the frost. Alyssum flower seeds will take 1-3 weeks to germinate in full lighting. Plants are popularly grown indoors and out and may reseed in optimal climates. Before transplanting, harden off the seedlings by gradually lengthening the time they spend outdoors. To increase the drainage of your soil, work compost, sand, or ground-up mulch into the soil prior to planting.
Water the plants regularly but ensure that the leaves and the top 1-2 inches of soil can fully dry between irrigations. Although it is not necessary, shearing after flowering can encourage a neater and more compact growth habit. In exceptionally hot and arid climates, provide part shade and a coating of mulch at the base. Basket of Gold Alyssum flowers are considered one of the easiest plants to grow directly. Unlike other varieties of Basket of Gold, Alyssum flowers require dry and arid conditions, and may show signs of rot if soil is not properly drained. Blooming may decline in consistently hot summers, but continue strong in the cooling fall. Do not over fertilize! Rarely does it need fertilizer except in barren soils.
