Sorghum Seeds - Rox Orange Syrup Cane
Rox Orange Syrup Cane. Sorghum. Sorghum bicolor. 70-80 days. Open Pollinated. Heirloom. Non-GMO. Rox Orange Syrup Cane is a tall, old-fashioned sweet sorghum grown for its sweet juice rather than its grain, prized for producing rich, amber sorghum syrup the way farm families have made it for generations. Also known as Waconia sorghum, this heirloom variety was developed by the Wisconsin Agricultural Experiment Station specifically for syrup production, and it shows in the results: sturdy stalks reach seven to eight feet tall, with a distinctive orange coloring, and carry a notably high sugar content that makes them well suited to pressing and boiling down into homemade syrup. Traditional sorghum syrup, of the type Rox Orange helps produce, is recognized on Slow Food's Ark of Taste as a heritage food worth preserving, a nod to just how long this style of syrup making has been part of American farm tradition. Beyond syrup, the stalks can also be used for forage or grain. 1,400 seeds/oz.
