Growing Rose F1 Hybrid Sweet Pepper in the Vegetable Garden
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost, sowing 0.25 inch deep in a warm seed starting mix. Hold soil temperatures between 75 and 85 F for germination, which takes about 7 to 14 days. Once nights stay reliably above 50 F and the soil has warmed, transplant seedlings 20 to 24 inches apart in rows spaced 36 to 48 inches apart, into full sun with rich, well-draining soil.
Water consistently and evenly, since fluctuating moisture can bring on blossom end rot on the extra-large fruit. A layer of mulch helps conserve moisture, and a phosphorus-rich fertilizer at flowering encourages strong fruit set. Because the bushy plants carry a heavy load of large peppers, a stake or small cage is worth adding to keep branches from bending or snapping once fruit sizes up.
Harvesting Rose F1 Hybrid Sweet Pepper
Peppers can be picked at any point in their color change, starting with a crisp, mild green harvest around 60 days after transplanting. Left longer, fruit passes through a soft lavender blush and then a rich purple before ripening fully to a deep orange-red by around 90 days, growing sweeter with each stage. Cut peppers from the plant with pruners or a knife rather than pulling, leaving a short stem attached to avoid tearing the branch.
About Rose F1 Hybrid Sweet Pepper Garden Seeds
Rose F1 is part of True Leaf Market's designer color pepper lineup alongside its sibling variety, Pinot Noir, both named for the wine-like hues their fruit takes on as it ripens.
Rose grows as a slightly taller, bushier plant than Pinot Noir, with dense foliage that helps shield the multicolored fruit from sunscald through the heat of summer.
The extra-large, thick-walled bells stay sweet and crisp at every color stage, making them a fun way to bring a rainbow of color to fresh eating, salads, and garden displays.
Tips From Our Gardeners
Pick a few peppers at each color stage- lavender, purple, and orange-red- for a naturally colorful platter. They only get sweeter the longer they hang on the plant.
