6-10 Days to Harvest. Avena sativa. Non-GMO Whole Hulled Oat Sprouting Seeds. Non-GMO. Sprouting. High Germination. Oat is one of the most beloved and delicious sprouting grains and, as an ancient field crop, is nearly effortless to germinate in and out of the soil. Only use hulled oats, groats, or clearly labeled “oats for sprouting” because the thick fibrous hull on the whole oat is far too indigestible. Wholesale and bulk seeds are available. ~940 seeds per ounce.
Using either a seed sprouting jar, sprouting tray, terra-cotta sprouting tray, or sprouting bag, add about 0.25 cup of non-GMO Oat sprouting seeds to your container and allow seeds an initial soaking for 30-60 minutes. After the initial soak, continue to rinse the Oat sprouting seeds twice each day and immediately drain. Do not allow any water to sit and soak the sprouts again. We recommend using filtered water for the best sprouting results. This suggestion applies to the initial soak as well as the rinses. Rinse seeds 2x per day for 6-10 days, keeping the Oat sprouts fresh, chewy, and plump without waterlogging.
Oat is one of the softest, simplest, and most hygienic sprouting grains, requiring no real effort other than 2-3 daily rinses and being sure to keep them covered from light. Like any cereal grain, oat is odorless and stainless but quickly develops bitter chlorophyll when exposed to sunlight, causing oat to lose some of its signature sweetness. For conventional sprouts, harvest no later than 3-5 days to not allow for too many root hairs or a sprout tail to develop. While these long and fibrous root hairs are desired in other sprouting varieties, they begin to mark the decline in quality of flavor in oat.
An alternative growing method is to rinse and drain every 8-12 hrs until tiny roots show. Plant in a 10x10 tray with a growing medium of choice. Keep covered until 1-2 inches then allow full light. Harvest at 6-10 Days, and between 4-12 inches long.
Benefits of Non-GMO Whole Oat Sprouts
Whole Oat sprouts contain great amounts of fiber, protein, potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, Vitamins B-complex, E, and K. The fiber will help to balance your digestive tract. Sprouting oats increases the bioavailability of the nutrients they contain. This means that your body is more easily able to absorb the vitamins and minerals they contain after they have been sprouted versus before.
Culinary Tips
Sprout them for salads or use them as fresh sprouted greens for poultry. Oats have so many uses! There is no wrong time to eat sprouted oats other than too late. Home cooks are more than familiar with quick sprouting oats for same-day use or the breakfast favorite “overnight oats”.
Tips From Our Gardeners
