Making Your Own Seed Starting Soil Mix

Creating your own seed starting mix is easy! Start by hydrating your compressed coco coir to the desired hydration level. It should feel light and fluffy, not muddy. Keep in mind the perlite will absorb some extra water to make your mix more porous. For each 10-pack of 80mm pucks or for a single brick, add approximately 8-10 cups of water. Then, mix your coco coir and perlite at a ratio of 7 parts coco coir to 1 part perlite. A part can be defined as any measurement, but we find cups to be the most commonly used. If your mix feels muddier than you would like, reduce the amount of water added for future batches or allow it to dry to the desired hydration level before use.

Seed starting soil mixes are ideal for filling seed starting tray inserts, 1020 trays, seed starting pots, or small pots for houseplants.
