Growing Cayenne Fiesta Blend Peppers in the Vegetable Garden
Start growing your Cayenne Fiesta Blend peppers by prepping your seed starting trays. You should plant the seeds about 6-8 weeks before the last spring frost date. You can choose either a seed starting mix like Minute Soil Coco Clair, or you can just choose well-draining soil. Plant those seeds about 0.25 inches deep into the soil and keep it nicely moist, but don't drown them! A handy trick is to stick your finger into the soil - if it feels dry, give the seeds a drink, but if it's wet, wait for a bit for the soil to dry out. Plant the seeds in this soil in a seed starting tray and keep it in a very warm area, somewhere around 80-90 F. You can use a grow light to keep this area warmer. The seedlings should emerge within 7-10 days. After they are a few inches tall, you can plant them in the garden or in planters! You should plant the rows about 2-3 feet apart, and the individual plants should be about 12-18 inches apart. Make sure to cover the roots completely!
Keep a close eye on your Cayenne Fiesta Blend peppers throughout the growing process to make sure they are healthy and growing correctly! You should be watering them consistently. The soil should be moist beneath the surface, but make sure not to overwater them. You can stick your finger in the soil to see how the moisture levels are beneath the surface. You can add mulch around the base of your plants to help keep the soil moist and suppress weeds. Companion planting with plants like marigolds and basil can help keep pests away and bring pollinators to your garden. Make sure to support the plants with stakes or trellises, which will help them grow upright and will support the plant as they grow fruit. You can also try treating them to a fertilizer packed with phosphorus and calcium for that extra boost of nutrients they need. And keep an eye on your peppers - if you spot any pests or diseases, make sure to treat them immediately!
Harvesting Cayenne Fiesta Blend Peppers
Make sure you’re keeping a close eye on Cayenne Fiesta Blend peppers so you can harvest the fruit right when it turns ripe. These peppers are ripe about 60 days after they’re transplanted. They will be bright red, yellow, purple, and green, and feel firm. Cayenne Fiesta Blend peppers grow to about 3 inches long. Because this is a hot variety, you can also harvest them before they’re fully ripe. To harvest the peppers, use garden shears or a clean knife and cut the stem a little above the fruit. Be gentle so not to damage the plant so it can keep producing fruit. Always wear gloves and wash your hands immediately after harvesting hot peppers. Store the peppers in a cool, dry spot.
