How to Grow Flower Bulbs, Bare Roots, Seed Potatoes & More
Growing Matrix Orange Asiatic Lilies
Plant bulbs 6 inches deep in fertile, well-drained soil. Space 8-12 inches apart. Best in full sun or partial shade. Keep soil moist but not soggy. Mulch helps conserve moisture and keeps roots cool. Lily bulbs may be planted in either the spring or fall seasons when the soil is workable, but not muddy.
It is normal for lily bulbs to appear with small cuts, scars, dimples, or discoloration. This is due to the harvesting and cleaning processes. Good bulbs should feel firm, and can sometimes have bulblets or offshoots already forming. While some bulbs may appear “prettier” than others, their firmness is the best way to know that they are good and viable.
Matrix Orange Lilies in the Garden
With their compact size, Matrix Orange lilies are ideal for containers and front borders. Their brilliant blooms bring early summer color and are excellent for cutting.
Harvesting Matrix Orange Lilies
Cut stems when buds show color but are not yet fully open for longest vase life. Leave at least one-third of the stem and foliage to replenish bulbs for future growth.
About Asiatic Lilies
Asiatic lilies are among the easiest lilies to grow, valued for their hardiness and vivid blooms. The Matrix series is especially known for its compact form and rich color.
Stories From Our Gardeners
"Matrix lilies are a great choice for small spaces, the blooms are just as bright as taller varieties but fit perfectly in containers or borders."
