Growing Elderberry Roots

Roots can be planted in the spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Choose a sunny-to-partly shaded location with moist, fertile soil. Dig holes large enough to transplant the roots so the soil surface is level with the transplant’s soil level. Space plants 8-10 feet apart in rows or hedgerows. Water regularly during the first season to establish strong growth.
