How to Grow Flower Bulbs, Bare Roots, Seed Potatoes & More
Growing Angelique Begonia Tubers
Plant tubers after all danger of frost has passed and soil is well warmed, ideally in spring when temperatures consistently above 55-60 F. Dig holes or set in containers about 1-2 inches deep, with the knobby/hollow top side up. Space 6-8 inches apart. Work soil or potting mix rich in compost or organic matter to improve moisture retention without waterlogging.
Water thoroughly after planting, then keep soil evenly moist (not soggy) throughout growth. Fertilize with a balanced house/flower bulb fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during bloom. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. In colder regions, lift tubers after the first frost, allow them to dry, then store them in a cool, dry, frost-free place until next spring.
Angelique in the Flower Garden
Ideal for hanging baskets, containers, and shaded patios. The pleasantly scented double flowers and lush foliage brighten shady spaces. This plant works well in mixed containers with complementary foliage plants.
Lifting Angelique Odorata Begonias
Removing faded flowers to encourage more. When frost threatens, cut back foliage and carefully lift tubers. Brush soil off, allow to dry, then store in frost-free, well-ventilated conditions until replanting in spring.

Stories From Our Gardeners
“Tuberous begonias light up shady corners, plant them in hanging baskets or pots and you’ll have cascades of color where few other flowers thrive.”
