Purple Italian Globe Artichoke (Cynara cardunculus)Seeds should be sown indoors, and transplanted outdoors after around 6-12 weeks, and a few weeks before the final frost of the season. Sow seeds in rows 36-72 inches apart, with 24-36 inches between each plant, in soil rich with nutrients. It is an excellent idea to use composted soil or mulch to ensure that plants get the necessary nutrients. Throughout growth, keep plants in full sun and water them consistently. Top buds will be ready for harvest earlier than lower buds. Harvest each bud individually when it reaches full size or has developed a deep purple color.

Facts:

Most artichokes turn purple if they are left on the plant after they should be harvested, when they are still green. However, this variety is ready for harvest when it develops a beautiful purple shade.
