How to Grow Mini Napa #2 Chinese Cabbage
Growing Chinese Cabbage is easy. The key is proving the right conditions for them to thrive in. Typically Chinese Cabbage likes cool weather that does not dip below 50°F at night for more than a week. Mini Napa #2 is no different, because it does mature a little quicker than other varieties you can use it for later planting if you are slow to get your garden going. Chinese Cabbages are heavy feeders so be sure to apply fertilizer during the growing season. Companion plant with oats to reduce problems with soil-borne illness and attract beneficial insects.
Harvesting Chinese Cabbage
Harvest when the heads reach the size you want. In the fall, cut heads high leaving the base of the plant intact. Small heads will often regrow from the stub. During the fall season Chinese Cabbages can tolerate a light frost, but be sure to harvest all cabbage heads before a hard freeze.
Culinary Tips
Napa cabbage can be eaten raw in salads. It has high water content and takes on a sweet and juicy flavor when cooked, picking up other flavors from the food it's cooked with.
