Growing Non-GMO Pampas Grass Grass Seeds
Pampas grass is traditionally grown outside and grows so large that there is little reason to ever grow plants indoors. Seeds are very small and commonly blended with sand to increase visibility if broadcasting directly. Cortaderia selloana will germinate in 14-21 days with full lighting. Lightly press without covering 4-5 Pampas grass seeds in dry, medium moist, and well-drained soil in full sun. Once established, Pampas grass performs well in regions prone to drought, heat, and poor soils. Pampas grass is known to reseed so vigorously that it is considered an invasive species in many regions.
This tough and easy-to-grow perennial requires very little care once established. Cut back any old foliage all the way to the ground in early winter and it will quickly regenerate once springtime comes. Fertilization is rarely necessary and it tolerates a wide variety of soil types as long as there is no standing water.
Pampas Grass Grass in the Flower Garden
Pampas grass is usually a border or windbreak for flower gardens. Those who enjoy homegrown bouquets enjoy Pampas grass as well. The slender blades and fluffy plumes make an interesting textural addition to any cut bouquet. While it does not have a traditional flower to enjoy, it is still a gorgeous companion for many flowering plants.
Landscape Use of Pampas Grass Grass
Pampas Grass is ideal for creating an attractive seasonal privacy fence, wind break, or natural backdrop. It is popularly chosen for a multitude of landscape uses and styles. Try incorporating it into naturalistic and mixed grass or modern prairie-inspired landscapes for a unique and fluffy look. Pampas grass is popularly grown in very large decorative planters as well as in the ground.
About Pampas Grass Garden Seeds
Pampas Grass is a wonderful plant that is deer tolerant. If it is ever fed on by deer, it is rarely damaged by it and recovers quickly.
This wispy and attractive grass has been known to thrive in a planter all by itself, attracting the eye and pleasing the senses. Avoid placing these near where straying hands and arms that might curiously stroke the plant as the blades of grass are notorious for being sharp enough to cut human skin.
Cortaderia selloana, or otherwise known as Pampas Grass, is native to Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, and the common name, Pampas, is in reference to the Pampas Grasslands in Argentina. Pampas became internationally popular during the Victorian Era when it was grown heavily in England, and introduced to the United States in 1848, becoming one of the most widespread ornamentals in the southern and western states.
Pampas grass can be part of an attractive mixed planter while young. Before it fills in, companion plant it with things like vinca and flower annuals of your choice. As the grass matures from year to year, remove more of the other plants until you have a large fluffy grass to enjoy!
