Growing Non-GMO Verbena Imagination Flower Seeds
For earliest blooms, verbena Imagination seeds may be sown indoors 12-14 weeks before transplanting, either indoors or out. For direct outdoor sowing, plant verbena Imagination seeds 0.25 inches deep in average, loamy, and well-drained soil with full sun, although seedlings can tolerate some shade. Direct outdoor sowing is only recommended in warm growing zones with long growing seasons and in a sheltered location.
Verbena can tolerate some drought, and too much water can cause problems. Water regularly, but allow the soil to dry 1-2 inches deep between each irrigation. Deadhead the spent flowers to stimulate new growth and more flowering. Do not cut back more than a quarter of the length of the stems; they can be trimmed any time of year that they need it. A monthly fertilizer application can promote heartier blooms, especially when growing in containers.
Verbena Imagination in the Flower Garden
Imagination Verbenas are a big attractor for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators; they will bring the much-desired pollen interaction into your garden. Verbena Imagination seeds mature into 12-20 inch tall bedding shrubs perfect for patio containers, large potted arrangements, or for rejuvenating a tired flower bed. They can fit into wildflower, pollinator, ornamental, or cottage garden styles.
Landscape Use of Verbena Imagination
They make an excellent choice for pots and garden borders. They are dramatic enough to be a focal point but can also blend into a wider landscape with ease. These are especially great for low-maintenance perennial gardens or landscapes in warmer climates. The cherry on top is that they are known to be deer resistant!
About Verbena Imagination Garden Seeds
Verbena has been used to treat inflammation, heart conditions, and depression. Consult with your healthcare provider before treating any medical condition at home.
Verbena Imagination debuted as a 1993 All-American Selections (AAS) Flower Winner and 1993 Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner for "exhibiting superior garden performance, and enduring summer heat, drought or severe weather." Imagination verbenas are often referred to as moss verbena for their similarity to Verbena tenuisecta.
Verbenas got their scientific name from a Latin word that refers to the fact that it was used in sacrificial rituals and was supposed to be very powerful in ancient times. Note that the variety used anciently was likely Verbena oficinalis.
Verbena speciosa, also known as vervain, is a sun-hardy perennial native to Northern Mexico and the southwestern United States but has become naturalized throughout many similar climates across the world.
Anytime you begin seeds indoors, it is essential that they be hardened off before transplanting them outdoors. This essentially means slowly acclimatizing the seedlings to their new environment by placing them outside for a few hours each day and gradually increasing the amount of time until they can be planted out full-time with confidence.
Verbenas can also be grown as an annual for gardeners in lower growing zones.
